Issue Certificates from Asana Tasks
Turn an onboarding project, course tracker or compliance checklist in Asana into verifiable certificates. Issue to every assignee in a project at once, or let a Rule issue the certificate the moment a task is marked complete.
- Rule action: "Issue IssueBadge certificate" runs when a task is completed, moved to a section or matches any trigger
- Bulk issue from any project, with recipient name and email from the assignee or custom fields
- Certificate link attached to the task, posted as a comment and stored in a custom field
- Tasks that already have a certificate are skipped, so re-running is safe

Connect Asana in 3 steps
Takes about five minutes. Works with any Asana workspace; Rules need an Asana plan that includes custom rule actions.
Connect Asana
Open IssueBadge Certificates for Asana and click Connect Asana. Approve access for the workspace you want to issue from. The app reads tasks, assignees and custom fields, and writes the certificate link back to tasks.
Add your IssueBadge API key
In IssueBadge open Settings → API, copy the key and paste it into the app, then click Save & test. The key is stored for the workspace so Rules can issue certificates when nobody has the app open.
Issue in bulk, or add a Rule
Pick a project, choose the badge, and decide where the recipient comes from:
- Task assignee — name and email from their Asana profile
- Custom fields — pick the text fields that hold the learner's name and email when the assignee is the trainer
Click Load tasks, review the list and click Issue certificates. For automatic issuing, open the project's Customize → Rules, add a trigger such as Task is completed, and choose the Issue IssueBadge certificate action.
Each issued task gets the certificate link as an attachment, a comment and a value in the IssueBadge certificate field. Tasks with a value in that field are skipped next time.
Prefer Zapier or Make?
Asana's Completed Task trigger is also available in Zapier and Make — connect it to the IssueBadge Issue Certificate action if you already automate there.
Frequently asked questions
Does this need a paid Asana plan?
Bulk issuing works on any Asana plan. The Rule action uses Asana Rules with custom actions, which are part of Asana's paid plans.
Where does the recipient's email come from?
From the assignee's Asana profile by default. If the assignee is a manager or trainer rather than the learner, map two text custom fields (name and email) instead.
What is written back to the task?
The certificate link as an external attachment, a comment "Certificate issued", and the link in a text custom field called IssueBadge certificate, created on the project the first time. You can switch each of these off on the bulk page.
Can the same task get two certificates?
Not by accident. Tasks with a value in the IssueBadge certificate field are skipped by the bulk page and the Rule. Clear the field to issue again.
Is my IssueBadge API key safe?
It is stored server-side for your workspace and never sent to the browser or to Asana. Disconnecting removes your Asana tokens.
Is there an Asana App Directory listing?
Yes — search for IssueBadge in the Asana App Directory; it links back to this guide.
